For those who love and care and are wondering what we are doing…… Garth is applying for Graduate school in NYC.  If he gets in we will be heading back east September 2010.  We find out April 2010 if he has been accepted so until then we will be **patiently** and prayerfully waiting. I PROMISE I will post an update as soon as we have more information!! :)

We are NOT LEAVING YET! So no Good-byes! We are staying here for several more months (maybe longer!)!!

New Look and New Blogs

Where have I been? What have I been doing lately?  Less than 10 posts in a whole month plus!  I know – I can’t believe it either.  You will find out more tomorrow but…

Here is a sneak peak. I have been working on this project for several months and am ready to share with everyone {{i think}}.  First you can see that www.famBEE.org has a new look.  Along with that new look are some new blogging goals.  I am going to only put busy-bee updates via my iPhone along with my short little journaling and thoughts here.  FamBEE.org is my daily outlet and record keeping.  So what about my other stuff?  Yeah – I bet some of you didn’t even know I had other stuff!  My other stuff will be put into seperate blogs so you only need to read the blog that interests you.  My favorite is the everything Technology blog (tech.jamiebee.com).  There is also LDS.jamiebee.com for my mormon thoughts, ideas, and quotes. There is Photos.jamiebee.com for my amiture photography, tips and tricks. And there is fam.jamiebee.com that will be packed full of ideas for toddlers, teenagers, and tweens.

And more….so much more to come!  I hope you enjoy checking out the blogs (low on content to begin but coming together) and reading what interests you. Let me know if there is anything you would like me to write about and/or if you are interested in writing a guest post.  Thanks! JamieBEE

This is just one song from Carrie’s amazing collection!  She has rhythm sticks, shacking eggs, bells, dance moves, songs, wind wands, and much more in her bag of goodies!  I have contacted her and am trying to work an available time into her schedule to arrange a class on our side of town.  It will hopefully be in the morning at my house once a week with a small $5 charge for supplies (discount for multiple kids in fam).  If you are interested let me know.

JamieBEE font

I created my handwriting font today: JamieBEE.  It has all the numbers, symbols, and letters.  I need to adjust the tilt and angles on the letters. It looks fine when you spell the alphabet but when you type anything else they go crazy.  But for now… it is finished and you can download it here: Download Font: JamieBEE

Mail Merge using Microsoft Excel & Word 2008 on a Mac

using Microsoft Excel & Word 2008 on a Mac. In 6 easy steps (plus a bit of prep work) you can quickly merge your Excel Data into a Word Document ready to print labels.

Preparing your Excel Document: The first row must be BOLD and have your column headers. Do not skip a row. Do not have a title row. It MUST look something like this (click image to enlarge):
Save this document somewhere so you can find it later.
Open Microsoft Word:
Under the tools menu choose the Mail Merge Manager.
This lovely little pop up will open and now in 6 easy steps you can merge your excel document and create labels.
Step 1: Select Document Type
In our example we selected Avery Labels 5160

Step 2: Select Recipients List.
Get List>> Open Data Source…
Browse until you find your Excel File that you prepared earlier and saved somewhere.By default it should select the correct information. Just make sure you are on the sheet that all your data is on. If you named your sheet the name will appear where it says “Sheet1″ in my image above.

Step 3: Insert Placeholders
Step 4: Filter Recipients
Step 5: Preview Results

I ran out of time….more will be coming soon. My girls are awake and ready for some attention. :) I will be back soon to write more. Be adventures until then! Try doing it on your own! :)

How to import JVC HDD Camcorder Video straight into iMovie – WAIT!!!

Ok – This is great! So EASY!!! I just wrote this long post on how to convert all kinds of crazyness and then I found this! If you just wait. and wait. and wait. and wait! it works fine! Straight from the JVC HDD Camcorder into iMovie.

Here are the simple steps:

Open iMovie. Connect JVC HDD Camera. WAIT.

It should just pop up automatically if not go to File – Import from Camera and then WAIT! Wait.
Camera will be detected and it will scan contents.

wait. wait. wait. while iMovie generates thumbnails.

The Camera window will appear.  Keep waiting while it continues to load thumbnails.

wait. wait. wait and wait some more.

FINALLY after all the thumbnails have loaded.

Now you can watch your videos! and Import All.

I did not want to Import All 3 years of video and I could not figure out how to import just one.  Has anyone figured this out? Good Luck and let me know if you have any other tricks.

Thanks!

How to import JVC HDD Camcorder Video and convert into iMovie or iDVD

**Say it in one breath: Copy & Paste Video straight from Camera, Convert .MOD to .MOV, Drag & Drop into iDVD, Burn, Enjoy!**

Today someone brought me a JVC HDD 30 GB camcorder that is FULL.  Here is a tutorial to help you get video off your camera and into iMovie to edit & iDVD to burn and watch in your DVD player.
READY. SET. GO:

First thing you have to get all the video files off of your video camera. Open up your video camera & your computer hard drive. Drag the PRG Folders inside the SD_VIDEO folder onto your computer into a folder. See Image:

Your JVC HDD Camcorder records video in MOD (video file) & MOI (info file).  The .MOD file type needs to be converted into something else that will import or open on your Mac (.MOV, .DV, .AVi file or whatever format you need.) The .MOI file can be discarded (and anything else BUT .MOD).

You are going to need another program: FFmpegx to Convert the files. (Download ffmpegx here). Once you have ffmpegx downloaded, installed and opened you are ready to convert the files. See Image below  (1) Drag & Drop the .MOD file into the “Source” Format section. (2) Select .MOV preset and hit the Encode button. (3) The .MOV file will appear when it is finished converting.

NOW you have a file ready to use in iMovie or iDVD!  Open iDVD and create a new project.

Click and drag the .MOV files into iDVD.  I have clicked on “Show the DVD Map”. (See image below) In most iDVD themes 6 videos fit perfect.  Because the camera creates a new file every time you start and stop the camera you will have a lot of files to sort through. *Combine videos in iMovie*  Keep the .MOD files and the .MOV files together so you can reference the .MOD files for the date & time the video was taken.  The .MOV file date and time is the time that the file was converted (not actually filmed). This can fill up your hard drive on your computer quickly so delete any files you will never use & buy a nice size external hard drive to store backup your files.  (Western Digital MyBook 1TB at Costco for $184.99)

Change the theme, change the title, change the file name, fill drop zones, preview, and Burn your DVD.  (see image)

Enjoy!

If this tutorial doesnt help or you want to look more places – here are my resources. I found a lot of this information from Garth, who found this information online at TeacherTube: JVC HDD Camcorder to iMovie HELP! and then I found this link HOWTO: Import JVC .MOD camcorder files into iMovie, Final Cut or Convert to another format,

Good luck! Let me know if you have any problems, need any help, or have a better solution!

Thanks!

UPDATE: After finishing this I read somewhere that it works fine with iMovie you just need to wait.  and SURE ENOUGH! It worked! Read more about how to import JVC HDD camera video straight into iMovie with no conversion. remember the key is to WAIT and WAIT and WAIT!

testing. This is a new idea. I am going to make JamieBEE a blog but I need help working with the template. I want to see a quote:

So here is a quote. Happy Fourth of July!

i heart MINT.com

A little background on JamieBEE. I LOVE to budget and plan! I have used almost every budgeting program invented such as Quicken, QuickBooks, Microsoft Money, etc. I have created my own programs in Google Docs, Excel, and Access. I do all my banking & bill pay online. I love to count every penny coming in > see where it is going > chart it at the end of the month > and discuss it with Garth. I have been fasicanted with accounting since a small child. I started using my first accounting & budgeting program (a ledger book & pencil) in the first grade keeping track of my reading money. (My mom would pay us a penny a page to read and I made over $100 by the age of 11). On sunday I asked Garth to take on another pet project website > a program that gathered all of my online transactions so that I could quickly see my budget without having to enter in all the information myself.

Now to the important information. MINT.com This is an amazing website! It is totally free!
It helps you to be aware of your finances. I tried pearBudget.com and wish that it did a little more for a little less money. THIS IS IT! Mint.com is amazing and totally free! (it makes money via advertising so does not charge you, the user (See Below, Ways to Save Tab). It took about 15 minutes to set up my Credit Cards & Bank Accounts and then it BLOWS your MIND! It catogorizes everything and keeps track of all your spending. It sets up a budget for you depending on your average spending. It tracks your spending so you do not have to. Really it is awesome! I love it as much as Google Reader now (which is saying ALOT for me!)
Adding Accounts
Adding an account is easy. Just click on the big box that says “Click to add any accounts” Mint connects to over 5,000 US banks and credit unions, credit card, brokerage, and mutual fund companies to keep your transactions and account balances automatically up-to-date. Mint even auto-balances your checkbook and auto-categorizes your transactions. Set it up once and you’re done.

Accounts Summary
After just a few moments it showed me these results of our transactions. Garth and I do everything via Credit Card or Online Banking. (We do not use cash for anything because it is so hard to keep track of where we are spending our money) Mint.com makes this so easy to do! THANK YOU!

5 TABS: TRENDS is my fav!
There are 5 tabs in the navigation. Overview, Transactions, Trends, Ways to Save (this is where they make their money via advertising), Accounts. Look at the middle tab Trends!!! This is the cool part! It has amazing graphs and charts! I don’t know if this will turn you on like it turns me on but WOW! Can I say WOW! It is an easy click or double click system. You can preview each color category focusing on the exact $ spent and the percent of your spending for each category.

Garth and I are geeked-out because it is created in Adobe Flex beautifully! Stand all amazed at the charting abilities, drag and drop, multi-loading functions, graphs, calcuations, colors, etc…. And to think on Sunday I was asking Garth if he would take on a budgeting program as his “pet-project” for me. NO WAY! This fulfills all my hopes and dreams without the backend management! Mint.com even has a Get Help section for those who need help! It is wonderful!

JamieBEE.com overhaul

I am working on a new design for my website: JamieBEE.com It is going to be dynamicFLASH which means awesome! Thanks to Anna Rasmussen photography’s website inspiration. Her new site will roll out the end of this week. We have been working on her site for TOO LONG because Garth learned some awesome new code to create her backend & admin section and made it really easy to use. It is his favorite RIA (Rich Internet Application) to date which pretty much that means awesomeness AMAZINGness in techno-terms! And as soon as Garth gets a breather…I am going to have him help me with JamieBEE.

Über Computer Nerd – Gadget of Choice

My new best friend: Google Reader.

I can now quickly view everyones updates without having to link to a million sites! Google Reader is Awesome! Take a second and try it out. The best part is if none of your friends or family have updated their blogs you can get random thoughts of truth from other blogs like Engadget.
This is a funny post from Engadget that I had to talk about:
important issue: their gadgets Anyway, all of this has got us wondering: what do you think that some of today’s popular gadgets might indicate about their owner’s character?

Garth’s Gadgets of Choice are his 8GB iPhone, 160GB iPod, and his yo-yo.
Garth’s character: He is fun-loving, handsome, and self-confident.
Jamie’s Gadgets of Choice are my MacPro, HP Vista Media Center, and Canon EOS 20D Camera w/ 50mm Lens
Jamie’s Character: I am resourceful, happy, and energetic.

So what is your gadget of choice? and what does that indicate about your character?

The Possum Story

Do you know what a Possum is? Have you ever seen on in real life? Have I got a story for you!

We, Robert, Jamie, and Troy, were recruited by Dad on December 27, 2002. We became the clean-out crew for Grandma Clara’s House (my Dad’s mom) because she was moved into a rest home.
To sum up the story:
I was left alone to sort through the garage for any family momentums (notice the mask on my hat, it was not a very clean living space!) while the boys took a load of garbage to the local dump. As I was poking around (literately poking with the end of a broom) in the garage a MUTATED CAT/RAT climbed out of box I was getting ready to open. I only saw the back half of this Mutated Monster and it was SCARY! I screamed! Almost threw up! Started to run out of the Garage when something started flying above my head attacking me! I was sure it was a Bat! I finally made it out of the garage and I stood on a folding chair at the end of the drive way afraid that the MUTATED CAT/RAT was coming to attack me at any moment! The boys found me there 25 minutes later when they got home from the dump.
Come to find out – the mutated Cat/Rat was a Possum. An UGLY mean possum that had been living in my Grandma’s Garage. I do not know if I can portray the true fear I had. This “possum” was the size of a cat with a huge, long rat tail! The so-called flying bat was the garage door opener pull string. (not as dangerous as I thought)

Many more details…but this is a good summary of that experience.

Ok – Jaime, I have no idea what TFS stands for on your comment in the last post. SO I decided to look it up and here are the definitions I found. You are who you choose to be

I have been SUPER DUPER BUSY! I was reading through some of my emails on Garth’s iPhone in bed lastnight and I got the LDS Gem in my email. “Whatever God requires is right, no matter what it is, although we may not see the reason thereof till long after the events transpire.” Joseph Smith. This quote really helped me to remember that we are being guided, even if we can not see where we are going. Troy said it so well the other night “When your world falls apart and you are doing what is right – you will be better off than you were before.” and I love DadB’s advice whenever any of the kids have told him they are having a hard time the first thing he says is “Are you reading your scriptures and saying your prayers?” Thank GOODNESS for guidance! It helps us to refocus and remember Mom (Joy) advice “What is it going to matter in 50 years?” Some of the little things going on in our lives right now are simple things that will pass so quickly, but when you are in them they can be daunting if you let them be daunting.

You are who you choose to be! If I choose to be sad and depressed, I will be. If I choose to be happy and looking forward to an adventure, I will be. If I choose to sit on the couch and do nothing but whine and cry and mob and groan, I will be. If I choose to be happy, I will be. The big question is how many times do you have to “choose to be?” Sometimes I only have to choose to be happy once a week and I can be happy all week. It seems lately that I have to choose to be happy every 27 minutes or I start slipping into a grumpy girl! So every 28 minutes, I choose to be happy! and Garth is there to lift me up when I am down and need a boost in the right direction.

What can I say…. LIFE HAS BEEN BUSY!
Garth is currently looking for a job and we have been putting together his portfolio: www.GarthDB.com. More details coming later. If you know of anybody that needs a wicked-awesome-can-do-it-all computer guy, let us know.

Gracie is potty-training. Yes. We have been doing great! I remind myself to live in the moment and I try not to focus on any of the mis-haps from before. We have “dry-pantie” parties about every 26 minutes! It is wonderful!!!! but when there is a problem…Gracie is really sweet and tries to cheer me up. The conversation goes something like this:
Mom “OH NO! Gracie your panties are wet!”
Gracie “it ok mom, happy”
Mom “hurry – lets go sit on the potty”
Gracie “run fassssss”
Mom “Gracie, mommy is sad when you go pee pee in your panties. Mom wants Gracie to go pee pee in the toilet”
Gracie “be Happy mom, ummmmmm (hugging noise) LOVE YOU, we can wash?”
Mom “Yes, we can wash them, but look, they are wet and stinky”
Gracie “sniff sniff, it ok – mom, it smells guud, HAPPY”
Mom “no, gracie that smells bad, your panties are wet and stink like pee pee”
Gracie “clean panties”
Mom “Here are some dry clean panties, sniff sniff, Um They smell Good! They are dry and fresh!”
Gracie “Happy Mom!”

I am. I am a Happy Mom! :) I tell myself that every 27 minutes.

Christmas Postcards

Custom Book Binding

This is one of the many books I have created from scratch. I print the pictures/monogram, choose the fabric and create the cover, rip & fold the paper into sections, sew the paper and cover into this beautiful knot binding, and complete it with a beautiful bow & bookmark. This particular book is a wedding guest book for Veronica. It has a beautiful monogram, names, and wedding date in the inside cover. Through out the book are their engagement pictures. It was displayed at the entrance of their wedding reception beautifully. The pink tassel bookmark was used as a weight to keep the book open to the proper page. I create a custom cover from fabric to match the wedding party and I use a beautiful Linen paper with torn edges to give an elegant feel.

Natalie & Cameron’s Wedding Album

The Latest….and GREATEST wedding album to date! *Partly because it is Garth’s Brother* Mostly because I had FULL control of design and plenty of time to make it look perfect! These images or just proofs of what the album is going to look like. The album is a beautiful 12″x12″ black leather book with full bleed mounted pictures. The photo spreads are 12″x24″ when the book is opened. Check out the proofs for the cover & each page: (click on the image to make it larger)

I only do the design work…Karl Hugh is the photographer for these pictures! He is amazing!!

Version 5.2: Jamie Lea Braithwaite

Question of the Day: Have you made improvements in your life by learning from others?

Version 1.1 – Maria Kajsa Hanson
Version 2.3 – Ida Anderson
Version 3.4 – Afton Anderson Jameson
Version 4.5 – Joy Jameson Lea
Version 5.2 – Jamie Lea Braithwaite
Version 6.0 – Ainsley Ann Braithwaite

There are 6 different versions of women here. In technical terms there have been improvements and new releases. I have been reflecting and looking back the the previous versions of women. Am I an improvement? Have I learned from their mistakes? Have I learned from their victories? What traits am I passing onto my next generation? What traits am I changing and deleting out of the system? I am in control of my life and I have control to change habits that have been started generations before me. It will not be easy. It may take a System Reconstruction!
